Aktuelle Forschung
Im Zentrum meiner Forschungsarbeiten steht die funktionelle Anpassung von Herzkreislauffunktionen, Stoffwechselaktivität und Ionenregulation an sich verändernde Umweltbedingungen. Von besonderem Interesse ist der Einfluss von variabler Sauerstoffverfügbarkeit, von Temperatur- und Salinitätsschwankungen oder auch von erhöhtem hydrostatischem Druck auf Fische und Amphibien. Die Anpassungen werden auf der molekularen, zellulären und organismischen Ebene analysiert um zu verstehen, wie anpassungsfähig und stress-resistent die Tiere in der sich verändernden Umwelt sind.
Die derzeitigen Projekte konzentrieren sich auf
- Die Rolle der Hypoxie-induzierbaren Transkriptionsfaktoren (Hif-Proteine) bei Hypoxie und in der Entwicklung von Fischen
- Bildung von reaktiven Sauerstoffspecies (ROS) und die Entgiftung von ROS bei variablen Sauerstoffpartialdrücken
- Auftriebsregulierung von wasserlebenden Organismen bei variablem hydrostatischen Druck
