We give thanks for your concern, condolences and your prayers with and for Father Raymund SJ. He died unexpectedly on February 27, 2004, much too early for all of us.

Univ.-Prof. Dr. Raymund Schwager SJ

Professor for Dogmatic and Ecumenical Theology at the Institute of Systematic Theology, long-standing Head of the former Institute of Dogmatic Theology, Dean of the Theological Faculty 1985-1987 and 1999-2003; bearer of the Tyrolean State-Prize for Academic Achievement 1998

Commencing with his appointment  as a Professor in 1977, Fr. Schwager worked hard on all levels of academic discourse for an ethically responsible co-operation of the academic disciplines. During his tenure as Dean he shaped the far-reaching structural reform of the Theological Faculty, as a theologian he gained international profile by developing his "Dramatic Theology" and initiating the Research Programme "Religion - Violence - Communication - World Order". Schwager's numerous publications have been translated into several languages and found world-wide distribution. Schwager was internationally known, a member and President of many academic societies, among others the international "Colloquium on Violence & Religion", seated at Stanford University, California.

The University of Innsbruck and the Theological Faculty mourn the death of this internationally respected and honoured colleague. We will remember him with high esteem and reverence. Finally we will remember him as a humble and lovable Jesuit Father.
