Pastoral Ministry Year
The continuing education programme Pastoral Ministry Year is aimed at young professionals in the pastoral occupational field of the dioceses of Innsbruck, Feldkirch and Bozen-Brixen. They complete this extra-occupational programme in their first year of service to get familiar with their professional role and to reflect on their professional experience. The Pastoral Ministry Year aims at acquiring scientifically reflected and experience-based basic competences in ecclesial pastoral care.

Target group
Young professionals in the pastoral field of the dioceses of Innsbruck, Feldkirch and Bozen-Brixen in their first year of service.
Requirements
- completion of a theological study programme covering a minimum of 180 ECTS-Credits and
- teacher accreditation for religious education for compulsory schools or an equivalent qualification
- The admission to the continuing education programme requires the allocation of a practical placement by the dioceses.

Content
Graduates of the continuing education programme acquire the following skills and competences, which must be combined for professional practice in the different fields of ecclesial action:
- personal skills in critical self-reflection in the context of different dimensions of pastoral practice;
- social skills in intersubjective contact with the different players of the respective community, for which one provides pastoral care;
- spiritual competence to integrate heterogeneous practical pastoral experience into one’s own spiritual life;
- theological competence to develop a contextually founded practical theology with the players of the local community;
- methodical competence for carrying out the professional pastoral work according to the requirements of the respective local community;
- institutional competence to independently act within the system logics of ecclesial organisation structures.
