Poverty. Women*, Class, Labour

Summer Semester 2023

The CGI's Feminist City Talks bring together current debates from everyday life, society and gender studies. In summer 2023, we will be discussing poverty, labour and class relations. The film "Made in Bangladesh" tells the story of textile workers who demand payment for their overtime. To stand up for her rights, a young woman decides to form a trade union. We talk to Betina Aumair and Brigitte Theißl about gender and class relations in Austria. Because social background influences all our lives.

Feelings. Anger, vulnerability and gender relations.

Winter Semester 2022/23

The Feminist City Talks bring together current debates from everyday life, society and gender studies. In the winter semester 2022/23, we will be discussing feelings, vulnerability and their politicisation. According to Shon Faye, the fear of change in the media debate tends to focus on the (seemingly) hurt feelings of mainstream society rather than recognising the vulnerability of trans* people. With Ciani-Sophia Hoeder, we talk about why angry women are still considered insane, even though female anger has historically made a huge difference in our society. Finally, based on the film "120 BPM", we discuss the political significance of anger and grief in AIDS activism in the early 1990s.
