TEISCHINGER Georg, MSc

University of Innsbruck
Department of Zoology
Research Group: Applied Animal Ecology
Georg is interested in the landscape-scale dynamics of plant-insect communities across areas in intense transition, including alpine landscape, farmland, and urban environments. With a diverse background in sociology, ecology, and public relations, his primary focus is combining biodiversity research with human-nature interactions and economic values to provide a deeper understanding of our ecosystems.
After completing his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Graz (AT), Georg moved to Vienna (AT) to start his Master’s degree in Ecology & Ecosystems, specializing in alpine environments. Beside his studies he become self-employed advisor, working on numerous projects related to nature conservation, restoration, and sustainable agriculture. Additionally he worked also in an educator at the Museum of Lower Austria in St. Pölten (AT). There he communicate’s science effectively to all age groups relatable, without losing its scientific integrity.
Following his Master’s degree, Georg began working as a research assistant at the Department of “Botany and Biodiversity Research” in Vienna. He contributes to the "Digital Plant Atlas of Austria – Online Flora of Austria" and works within the "Justice and Conservation Lab (JacLab)," where he explores the relationships between insects, plants, and humans in Vienna's ruderal areas.
His PhD thesis focuses on studying arthropods within Austrian agricultural landscapes. He aims to improve non-invasive methods for tracking insect networks using environmental DNA (eDNA). By gaining a better understanding of how these insects interact, he hopes to design more efficient flowering strips for farmland. This research will help reduce food competition between managed honey bees and native wild bees, manage pests, and enhance agricultural yields. Ultimately, his goal is to support sustainable farming by protecting and promoting local biodiversity.
