Welcome Dr. Jonathan Obrist-Farner

We are delighted to welcome Dr. Jonathan Obrist-Farner to the Department of Geology as a Visiting Professor and Fulbright Scholar

The Department of Geology is delighted to welcome Dr. Jonathan Obrist-Farner as a Fulbright Scholar and Visiting Professor.

Jonathan brings with him expertise in sedimentology, stratigraphy, and paleoseismology, along with a commitment to international scientific collaboration. As an Associate Professor at Missouri University of Science and Technology and Principal Investigator of the International Continental Scientific Drilling Project LIBRE (Lake Izabal Basin Research Endeavor), an ambitious international drilling initiative focused on Guatemala's Lake Izabal basin, Jonathan has built a record of research at the intersection of tectonics, paleoclimate, and natural hazards along the North American-Caribbean plate boundary.

During his time at Innsbruck, Jonathan will contribute to teaching and research in sedimentology and limnogeology, while continuing to advance his work on earthquake recurrence and lacustrine paleoseismology in Central America. His research approach, bridging geochemistry, stratigraphy, and tectonic sedimentology, promises to enrich both our research environment and our students' learning experience.

We very much look forward to the collaborations and ideas that Jonathan will bring to our institute, and we warmly welcome him to Innsbruck.
