Can you figure out Frau Hitt?

Although the silhouette of the Nordkette can’t be calculated in the conventional sense, we can use a cubic spline to figure it out and describe it. Such splines are curves that connect different points in a coordinate system. They are used, for example, to determine the course of roller coasters or railway tracks. Our spline consists of many points, which are exactly defined by coefficients, i.e. numbers. The more numbers you define, the more accurate the approximation through the curve will be. Thus our line becomes, in several steps, the silhouette of the Nordkette.

Table

With this at first glance slightly intimidating formula, the individual points for our silhouette are determined. Listed in the table are the points that describe Frau Hitt in the 5th approximation (see graph above).
