Department of Zoology

Zoology in Innsbruck has a longstanding history, and the Department was first founded in 1863.

Our modern zoology is currently focused on research with:

  • evolutionary
  • developmental biology
  • structural
  • functional
  • physiological
  • chronobiological
  • and environmental toxicological issues.

We want to understand life on the organismic and cellular level, as well as to illuminate structure-function relationships on the biological and technical point of view.

In terms of teaching the institute is responsible for the zoological education of bachelor and master students as well as teacher education. The institute contributes also to the master's studies "molecular cell and developmental biology" and offers a Ph. D. program.
