Residence: City of Innsbruck
When you move into an apartment in Innsbruck for the first time, relocate within Austria, or establish a secondary residence, you must register your residence with the City of Innsbruck .
Those who choose Innsbruck as their primary residence enjoy certain benefits: for example, you can apply for rent assistance or a resident parking permit here. If you’re planning ahead, you can apply for city-owned housing.
Registering your primary residence also indirectly helps the city fulfill its responsibilities through fiscal equalization—responsibilities that, in turn, benefit students. For example, when it comes to investments in student housing, public transportation, the expansion of the bike path network, and cultural and educational institutions. In return, you also gain the right to have a say in Innsbruck, as EU citizens can vote in municipal council elections at their primary residence.
You can find more helpful information on various topics related to life in the city of Innsbruck at the City of Innsbruck’s digital service portal.
