Social and Ecological Transformations

The research area Social and Ecological Transformations integrates two complementary strands: First, it examines inequalities based on social origin, gender, or migration background, particularly in education and gainful employment. Second, it explores sustainability transformation, especially in relation to food production and consumption within the broader food system. These strands are brought together to analyse the social-ecological transformation in the context of social inequalities. The research area examines the aforementioned topics in a spatial context, i.e., in its interactions between social environment, space, and context at local, regional, national, international, and global levels, as well as in relation to urban and rural areas.

The research area consists of the working groups Agricultural and Regional Sociology (Assoc. Prof. Dr Rike Stotten) and Macrosociology and Social Inequality (Univ. Prof. Dr. Wilfred Uunk).
