The new MA in Romance Studies will take effect on October 1, 2026.
What’s new in the MA in Romance Studies?
- A new module in area studies, featuring courses on topics such as the educational and media landscape
- Support for specialization in a second Romance language (elective track: Interdisciplinary Romance Studies): You’ll gain in-depth knowledge of a second Romance language and gain—including through practical experience—insight into interdisciplinary issues (e.g., through field trips).
Who can switch?
Anyone.

Don’t want to switch and started your program before October 1, 2026?
You will remain on the old curriculum and can complete it within a maximum of six semesters (§ 13, para. 2). Only then will you be automatically transferred to the new curriculum.
