Background
Accessibility is a goal that affects us all, but achieving it often requires significant resources. Many public transport stops in Innsbruck are still not accessible, but information about existing barriers already supports independent use. With the city rally "Access Innsbruck", which takes place as part of Sustainability Week 2025: Knowledge.responsibility, we would like to take a first step: Together with the participants, we want to make barriers in public transport visible and provide important information to enable barrier-free route planning.
The Sustainability Week (10-14 November 2025) will focus on the "culture of sustainability" and offer a diverse programme of lectures, discussions and workshops to promote sustainable action at the university and in its surroundings.
Agenda
Just imagine: You explore Innsbruck with new eyes. Equipped with a smartphone and checklist, you become a city detective and document what many people don't see in everyday life - barriers that people with disabilities, older people or parents with strollers encounter every day.
In just four hours, you will make a valuable contribution to barrier-free mobility in Innsbruck. Equipped with digital tools, you systematically record the accessibility of stops.
Introductory workshop
We'll show you what's important. You will get to know the checklist and find out what you should pay attention to. Start in seminar room 9, Ágnes-Heller-Haus, Innrain 52a.
Joint data collection
You explore stops in the Innsbruck city area independently or in small groups and document features such as:
- the presence of ramps and their condition
- Kerb heights and boarding aids
- Tactile guidance systems and acoustic signals
- Danger points and orientation aids
Exchange & Socialising
A cozy get-together in the Uni-Lounge with warm drinks and conversations about your experiences.
What you bring to the table:
- ✓ Smartphone (fully charged)
- ✓ Weatherproof clothing
- ✓ Openness to new perspectives
Why take part?

For Innsbruck
The data you collect is professionally processed and made available to the community. This creates the basis for apps and services that enable people with mobility restrictions to plan their own routes.

For society
You set a visible example of inclusion in practice and raise awareness of an issue that affects us all - now and in the future.

For you personally
- Change of perspective: you develop a new awareness of accessibility in public spaces
- Practical experience: You will experience participatory data collection first-hand
- Exchange: You network with people who are committed to inclusive urban development
The special feature:
This event is part of the Access Innsbruck, which is being developed as part of the Prototypenförderung des Förderkreises 1669. With your help, a scalable model for barrier-free mobility is being created that can be transferred to other cities.
You are part of a pilot project with a signal effect!
FAQ - Frequently asked questions
Ideally yes, but if you can only come for part of the time, that's fine too. However, the introductory workshop at 13:00 is important so that you know what to look out for. You can arrange the end flexibly.
By all means! You can take part together as a group and split up the stops or explore together. Just let us know how many people you are when you register.
No, all you need is a smartphone (charged!) and weatherproof clothing. Everything else - the checklist, the instructions and the know-how - you'll get from us in the workshop.
The city rally takes place regardless of the weather—accessibility in different weather conditions is particularly important! Just dress appropriately for the weather. We will inform you in advance in the event of extreme weather conditions.
You decide for yourself! You can concentrate on a smaller area or cover longer distances. Most participants explore 5-10 stops in their chosen area.
The data is checked by us, processed in a structured manner and then published and made available to the online community. It should then build the basis to be used in various apps and services for barrier-free route planning.
Absolutely! Your perspective is particularly valuable. We try to make the rally as accessible as possible. Please contact us in advance so that we can work together to find the best way to support your participation.
No, the event will definitely take place. However, the maximum number of participants is limited so that we can take good care of everyone - so register as soon as possible!
That depends on your field of study. We will be happy to confirm your participation. It is best to check with your course instructor in advance to see if credit can be earned.
Of course! The city rally is open to all interested people from Innsbruck and the surrounding area. We look forward to everyone taking part!
