Preliminary Excavation Results
New discoveries at Monte Iato are made accessible as research unfolds. Our preliminary excavation reports present newly uncovered structures, contexts and material assemblages shortly after fieldwork. They prioritise careful documentation, visual clarity and contextual description over final interpretation. By sharing evidence at an early stage, we support transparency, dialogue and cumulative scholarship.
Publishing Research in Progress
Archaeological research is long-term. Excavation, analysis and publication often span many years. At the same time, fieldwork continuously generates new evidence of immediate scholarly relevance. To ensure early accessibility and transparency, the Innsbruck Monte Iato Project publishes selected preliminary excavation results online. These reports document newly uncovered structures, stratigraphic contexts and material assemblages shortly after excavation. They focus on careful description and contextualisation rather than final interpretation.
Why We Publish Online
Archaeology depends on material evidence — architecture, stratigraphy, objects and spatial relationships. Adequate visual and contextual documentation is therefore essential. Our project website allows us to present preliminary findings with sufficient space for images, plans and detailed descriptions. This format supports clarity and accessibility while research is ongoing. All reports follow FAIR data principles and are designed to be citable and reusable.
An Open Research Process
The reports presented here are working documents. They make primary evidence visible at an early stage and contribute to an ongoing research dialogue.We welcome scholarly feedback and discussion. Early exchange strengthens interpretation and supports the responsible development of subsequent final publications.
