Abstract:
The project aims to use an archaeological test case study to develop a workflow for the infrastructural development of humanities-based, semantically organized databases that integrate data sets for specific questions from different data sources. Semantic in this case means that the data is processed according to semantic web standards. In addition, CIDOC CRM, an ISO-certified ontological data model for cultural heritage documentation, is used for data representation. This model was created for data integration and is used internationally, which makes it possible to link the created data sets with the data of other institutions and thus further expand the data pool for research questions. Based on archaeological questions, a data integration tool is being developed and tested for its applicability, which will be applicable to all humanities. The project thus not only lays the groundwork for an expandable comparative archaeology database, but also lays the foundation for further use in the context of digital humanities.
