Empirical research on spirituality has increased significantly over the past two decades and now has a considerable impact on health sciences, particularly in the field of mental health. However, the metaphysical and epistemological implications of this research still do not receive sufficient attention, especially among health scientists. My research addresses this gap and highlights the relevance of clear philosophical analysis in this area. The paper begins with an overview of the current state of empirical research.
