Nigel Callender is a postdoctoral researcher in hypoxia and cerebrovascular physiology working with Prof. Justin Lawley. He has a dual background in vascular and exercise physiology, alongside clinical training in anaesthesia and critical care medicine. He graduated from Newcastle medical school (UK) in 2012 and completed his PhD at the University of Oslo (Norway) in 2025, where his research focused on the local haemodynamic effects of negative pressure. His work explores how hypoxia and other physiological stressors influence the brain and human performance, with a translational focus toward understanding and improving outcomes in clinical settings.
- Cerebrovascular control and the implications of hypoxia, exercise, and hypertension
- Control of the microcirculation in response to transmural pressure changes
- Contributors to cognitive dysfunction following critical illness
