Job Offers

Bachelor: Within the course “Bachelorseminar” we offer various topics for Bachelor thesis, which usually include experiments in our laboratories. Details about the Bachelor thesis are presented on the Homepage of the seminar. Homepage des Seminars.

Master: We always look for interested master students, to perform experiments among our research fields. If you are interested, please send an e-mail to Stephan.Denifl@uibk.ac.at.

PhD/Postdoc: Currently a call for a PhD is running, please see below!

Vacant PhD position starting in spring 2026:  We have an open PhD position for an enthusiastic student having a master degree in Physics or Physical Chemistry and related subjects. The three-year position is related to a project on the experimental study of inelastic electron interaction with biologically relevant molecules. The successful candidate will improve an existing time-of-flight mass spectrometer setup and use it for mass spectrometry experiments with different molecules at different conditions; see for example the open access articles https://doi.org/10.1039/D3CP01162C , https://link.springer.com/article/10.1140/epjd/s10053-025-01023-9 and https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-019-10340-8 for previous studies.

A master thesis (or longer working experience) covering at least one of the following research fields is required: mass spectrometry, collision physics, chemical physics, molecular physics/chemistry, radiation physics or radiation chemistry. Experience in the fields of electron spectroscopy or ion spectroscopy or laser physics is beneficial. Substantial experience in the lab work during master thesis or later is required. Strong skills in Python programming language are of advantage.

In addition, following general skills are required: Reliable and precise work; advanced skills in written/spoken English; high motivation for personal development; high social skills and willingness to work in a team.
