Guidelines for Submission

Send us your text as an e-mail attachment. Use a recent Word program or a program that is easily convertible into Word. Format as little as possible. Indicate clearly what should be set in italics. Nothing in the body of the text should be designated bold.

The superscript of the contribution: title; new line, (where appropriate): subtitle, new line, by first name and family name of the author followed by the city where the author’s university or residence is located in parenthesis.

An overview of the titles of the sections or chapters of the contribution proceeded by a little star (numerals should be avoided).

Notes should be designated by consecutive Arabic numerals at the end of the text. Endnote numerals in the text should appear after periods, colons and semi-colons but before commas.

Books, periodicals etc. should be italicized in the text but not in the bibliography. The same goes for emphasis. Concepts which are objects of discussion or are employed in an unusual sense should be designated by scare quotes.

Quotations: short quotes should be integrated into the text designated by quotation marks. Lengthy ones should be indented without quotation marks. Quotations within quotations should be indicated by scare quotes. Omissions in quotations or additions to quoted material should be designated by a row of three dots in square brackets.

Bibliographical data should be complete when first mentioned, later a short title suffices. References immediately repeated should be designated simply with ibid. followed by p.   and the appropriate page number.
Books: First name family name: title. Sub-title (where appropriate). Volume (where appropriate). Edition (where appropriate). Place and year of publication (series title and number), page number.
Scholarly editions: First name family name: title. Ed. by first name family name. Place and year of publication (general title and volume number, where appropriate), volume (where appropriate), page number.
Publication in an anthology: First name family name: title of essay, sub-title (where appropriate). In: First name family name of the editor (ed.): title of the anthology. Edition (where appropriate). Place and year of publication, pp. …, here p. x (where appropriate).
Publication in a periodical: First name family name: title of essay, sub-title (where appropriate). In: name of periodical series number, year, number (where appropriate), pp. …, here p. x (where appropriate).
Archivalie: Kind (e.g., Typoskript, letter from XY to AB), date, name of the archive, name of the literary estate, cassette + No., briefcase + No., if necessary signature.
Short title: Family name (note, x), x.

Pictures and graphics. In case pictures of graphics should be integrated into the running text the corresponding prototypes should be attached to the e-mailed document and/or typescript. Other pictures or texts that should appear in the background can also be dealt with this way.
