Criteria for the determination of equivalence:

Admission to the mastr's degree programme may also be possible if a student has completed a bachelor's degree in a relevant related field. As part of the determination of equivalence, the following core areas of the completed bachelor's degree programme (without taking the bachelor's thesis into account) will be assessed:

  • 92.5 ECTS-Credits in business studies and economics, therefrom at least 50 ECTS-Credits in business subjects
    Graduates of the Bachelor's Programme Management and Economics and the Diploma Programme International Economic and Business Studies at the University of Innsbruck automatically meet these qualitative admission requirements.
  • 15 ECTS-Credits in (management and financial) accounting
  • 12.5 ECTS-Credits in marketing, retailing, strategic management, tourism/service management, or public management
  • 7.5 ECTS-Credits in mathematics and/or statistics

Since the entrance examination can take several weeks, it is advisable to submit the corresponding application for admission as early as possible before the start of the winter semester (1.10.).

Recommended Course Sequence

The exemplary course sequence given below is recommended for full-time students beginning their study programme in the winter semester. The table shows one possible course sequence for the bachelor's programme and is not compulsory. Delays resulting from repeated examinations are not taken into account.

The standard duration of the study programme is 4 semesters or 120 ECTS-Credits, whereby according to the Universities Act of 2002, a workload of 1,500 (real) hours per academic year must be fulfilled, corresponding to 60 ECTS-Credits (one ECTS-Credit is equivalent to a workload of 25 hours).

Qualification Profile and Skills

The Master's Programme Strategic Management and Innovation addresses students with an entrepreneurial mindset, who are interested in founding and developing their own start-up. Further the program focuses on the ability to understand and develop strategies and business models, which address challenges and opportunities through digitalisation. The master's program prepares students to find creative solutions and develop and manage innovations.

The programme values critical thinking, openness, creativity and reflexivity to enable students to develop managerial and social competences. The programme emphasizes cooperative teamwork and the establishment of networks with companies and institutions. Students have the opportunity to apply their abilities and creativity at an early stage in strategy and innovation projects for small, medium-sized and large organizations, or in scientific research projects.

Expected Learning Outcomes

The internationally oriented programme trains entrepreneurial thinking and action through innovation projects and provides practical insights into leading innovation ecosystems. Students acquire in-depth knowledge on the development and implementation of strategies and business models in the context of disruptive change and digital transformation.
