Andrea Ganthaler is interested in how woody plants cope with biotic and abiotic stress. Her research focuses on anatomical, physiological, and biochemical adaptations that enable plants to survive in difficult environmental conditions. She pays particular attention to plant physiological responses to water stress and infestation by pests, as well as to the complex interactions between various stress factors. Ganthaler conducts her research as a member of the Ecophysiology Working Group at the Department of Botany at the University of Innsbruck.

About

Andrea Ganthaler studied Biology and Botany at the University of Innsbruck, where she obtained her PhD in Plant Physiology in 2016. In her doctoral thesis, Ganthaler analyzed the infection dynamics and effects of the fungus Spruce Needle Rust on subalpine forests and investigated possible resistance mechanisms. Since then, she has been working as a postdoctoral researcher and senior scientist at the University of Innsbruck.

In addition to the consequences of pest infestation, her research also focuses on the water balance of trees and shrubs. Among other things, she examines the effects of droughts and the influence of reduced snow cover in winter.
