Earthquakes and Carbon Burial

We contributed to a new study revealing how earthquake-driven sediment dynamics regulate the burial and preservation of organic carbon in the Japan Trench.

The study demonstrates that sedimentation rates strongly influence the preservation of organic carbon before it is subducted into Earth's interior. These findings improve our understanding of the links between sediment dynamics, subduction processes and the deep carbon cycle.
