About us
The Network of Areas (NoA) is part of the Research Area “Cultural Encounters – Cultural Conflicts” at the University of Innsbruck and promotes research on different regions of the world as well as scientific cooperation with their institutions.
Every year, a number of innovative, interdisciplinary projects are financially supported, which are dedicated to building and disseminating knowledge about specific regions and their networks. Regional focal areas can be redefined and deepened over several years.
This specially established funding programme enables university-wide, interdisciplinary bottom-up initiatives via an Open Call. Ideally, project initiatives address regional focus through activities that enable exchange and networking at different levels of research, teaching and third mission, and appeal to various target groups. The regional focal areas are determined through a competitive selection process.
The Network of Areas was created in 2025 as a new institution which bundles the preexisting Centres for Area Studies at the University of Innsbruck into a common structure and incorporates established partnerships within the framework of new projects.
