At the Research Area Cultural Encounters – Cultural Conflicts, scientists from the university of Innsbruck work together in ten interdisciplinary research centers.
The research fields range from social transformations, migration, globalization, and different conceptions of Europe to human-nature relationships against the backdrop of current and multiple crises. We focus on questions of the creation of affiliations and distinctions, the constitution and abolition of boundaries, specifically in the social and symbolic sphere. By intertwining historical and current, regional and global perspectives, the Research Area forms a hub for interdisciplinary initiatives, research projects, and networking within the university and beyond.
