"The Doric Aegean and Crete" - Ancient Maritime World 2022

The summer school was organised by PD Volker Grieb (Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz, AUT) and took place from the 10th of September until the 1st of October. MA and PhD students presented talks about topics from the fields of Ancient History, Classical Philology and Archaeology along the route from Kos to Astypalaia, Thera, Crete, Karpathos, Rhodes, Tilos and back to Kos and ranging from the Bronze Age until the Middle Ages. Volker Grieb gave talks about the topics of ancient seafaring and navigation, astronomy, meteorology as well as about the entanglement of coast settlements along those maritime itineraries and according to the prevalent wind systems. Florian Posselt and Hendrik Stanway each held a lecture.
