Writing a Master’s Thesis in the Context of the DiSC

Students have the opportunity to write their master’s thesis (co-)supervised by members of the Digital Science Center. Would you like to write your thesis on a topic related to digital methods and societal impacts of digitalization? If so, there are two ways to do this:

Our DiSC members offer a variety of topics in different fields that may spark your interest. These topics may or may not include interdisciplinary aspects. Browse through our list of available topics and don't hesitate to reach out to the listed supervisors if you have any questions.

By engaging in interdisciplinary research, students can broaden the scope of their work, gain new methodological perspectives and skills, and contribute to addressing complex societal and scientific challenges, including climate change, social inequality, the implications of artificial intelligence, and the spread of disinformation. To encourage interdisciplinary collaboration, we invite applications for master’s thesis projects that involve DiSC members as (co-)supervisor in an open call.

Application Requirements

Applicants are asked to submit a one-page motivation letter introducing themselves and outlining their proposed thesis topic, research question, and interdisciplinary approach.

Please research DiSC members who could potentially serve as (co-)supervisors and contact them directly to discuss your proposal with them. If you do not know yet who could serve as a supervisor, but you have a well thought-out idea that falls into a field relevant to the DiSC, you can also send your application to disc@uibk.ac.at.

Evaluation Process

This is an open call without a fixed deadline; applications can be submitted on an ongoing basis until further notice. Submissions will be reviewed by the proposed DiSC supervisor(s), and applicants will be notified of the outcome within a reasonable time frame.

For questions or further information, prospective applicants are welcome to contact us.
