Twelfth Night on Page, Stage and Screen

In the winter semester 2023/24, Ass.-Prof. Dr. Anja Hartl taught a proseminar dedicated to William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. Students explored the play and adaptations of Twelfth Night in performance and film. A key element of the course was a cooperation with the Tiroler Landestheater in Innsbruck, which staged a new version of the play (entitled Was ihr wollt) during their 2023/24 season. We went to see the play together on 16 November 2023. In the following weeks, we workshopped the play together with theatre pedagogue Daniela Oberrauch and dramaturg Diana Merkel, who also organized a backstage tour for us. We also had the opportunity to meet actor Tommy Fischnaller-Wachtler, who answered our questions on Was ihr wollt and on his work as an actor.

As part of the seminar, students wrote reviews of the production, which can be read here.

The radio team at the Department of English, The English Frequency, also reported about the production and interviewed members of the seminar. You can listen to the episode here.
