Computing and modelling with (imprecise) probabilities and non-probabilistic approaches

In the mid-nineties the starting point of research in this area was a collaboration with the unit of project and construction management modelling uncertainties in project planning and tunnelling by fuzzy sets. In the following the non-probabilistic concept of fuzzy numbers was enlarged by random sets and later on generalized by imprecise probabilities such as families of probability measures.  The research topics cover the development of new mathematical concepts and methods and applications in engineering sciences, risk analysis, operations research and biomechanics. Although the main focus is on imprecise probabilities also classical probabilistic problems are considered in collaboration with other units of the faculty and with companies.
