Jointly learning multimedia data security

AB
Coordinator Univ.-Prof. Dr. Rainer Böhme   University of Innsbruck | Department of Computer Science
Partner Prof. Dr. Giulia Boato  University of Trento | Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science
Duration October 2019 till June 2022
Project typeJoint lecture and field trip to Trento
Project context/ content The joint course gave an introduction to the research field of multimedia data security. It discussed the relevant protection goals and technical enforcement methods for media data, including active (embedding) and passive (detection) techniques. The main part of the course focused on passive methods, which allow users to verify the authenticity and integrity of media data, thereby addressing relevant questions like "Is this digital photograph fake or real?". To answer these questions, two prominent sub-problems of multimedia forensics were studied in detail: source identification and detection of traces of manipulation. Concerning the methods, priority was given to model-based and data-driven techniques.
ResultsStudents received consistent training on both theoretical aspects of multimedia security and practical skills, thus facilitating future exchanges and joint theses.
