Designed for MA students and early-stage PhD candidates, NeoLEMoS is rooted in the field of Neo-Latin philology and aims to foreground the central role of Neo-Latin as both a tool and a medium for exploring early modern culture. Building on this foundation, the school fosters interdisciplinary perspectives on early modern society, bringing together approaches from history, book history, classical reception, gender studies, and religious studies. Consequently, it highlights the significance of Neo-Latin in shaping intellectual and cultural developments from the early modern period to the present day.
The academic programme combines lectures on key topics in Neo-Latin and early modern studies with hands-on training sessions in digital tools for Neo-Latin research such as Transkribus. In addition, participants engage with the historical context of the period through guided visits to the Tyrolean sites of cultural and historical relevance connected to early modern history.
