Sunshade helps in the search for a second Earth
An international research team including Stefan Kimeswenger, astrophysicist at the University of Innsbruck, has tested a new approach to studying Earth-like exoplanets. The idea is to combine a large, earth-based telescope with a "sunshade" orbiting in space.
Debugging a quantum processor
Researchers at the University of Innsbruck, together with partners from Sydney and Waterloo, have presented a new diagnostic method for quantum computers. It makes errors in individual quantum bits visible during logical calculation and evaluates them. The new method was demonstrated on an ion trap quantum processor in Innsbruck. It can be used to identify critical error sources —a key to developing more robust, fault-tolerant quantum processors.
University of Alberta: Applications for Faculty Exchange Until March 15
The University of Innsbruck and the University of Alberta are continuing their close collaboration and strengthening international exchange on both sides. On 18 February, Professor Dominique Reill was a guest at the University of Innsbruck. A current call for applications for a faculty exchange programme is open until 15 March.
UNIverse: Activation for students
Students at the University of Innsbruck now have access to UNIverse: a cloud platform to facilitate collaboration in groups. UNIverse can be used to save and share files in the cloud, and also offers functions for chats, video calls and project planning.
Aurora Network welcomes University of Sussex as Partner
The Aurora Universities Network is expanding its international partnership network: the University of Sussex has joined the network as a Strategic Partner as of February 2026. The collaboration was formalised through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking an important step toward potential full membership of the British university.
Optical temperature sensing from cold to very hot
An international collaboration involving researchers from the University of Innsbruck has developed a novel luminescent material that enables particularly robust and precise optical temperature sensing across an exceptionally broad temperature range.
