Mission statement:

Section 42 (1) UG: "At each university, the Senate shall establish a working group for equal treatment issues whose task is to counteract discrimination by university bodies on the basis of gender, ethnicity, religion or belief, age or sexual orientation and to advise and support the members and bodies of the university in these matters."

We are the point of contact for discrimination based on gender, ethnic origin, religion, ideology, age or sexual orientation as well as for problems with (sexual) harassment in connection with employment or studies at the University of Innsbruck.

In such cases you can contact any member of the AKG. Discretion, respect for the duty of confidentiality and the self-determination of those who contact us are our top priorities. In the event of complaints, the AKG will only take steps or measures after explicit consultation with the person concerned.

Information on the AKG:

The AKG is a university body provided for by law (in section 42 UG), in which professors, members of academic and non-academic staff and students participate. According to the statutes, the AKG at the UIBK has 16 members and 16 substitute members.

Responsible for the faculties/organisational units (Coordination officer)

Tasks of the AKG:

  • Counteracts certain forms of Discrimination by university bodies in connection with an employment relationship or studies at the university
    e.g. in the case of
    • discriminatory personnel decisions (in particular the hiring process)
    • Cases of certain forms of harassment
    • other forms of discrimination
  • Provides gender-specific counselling for university bodies, e.g. in the following areas
  • Advises/mediates in cases of bullying (if necessary in cooperation with the works councils/departmental committees)
  • Reviews the 50% quota of women in university collegial bodies (in particular the University Council, Rectorate, Senate and collegial bodies appointed by the Senate, as well as election proposals of the groups represented in the Senate for election to the Senate)

The AKG acts autonomously and independently (constitutionally guaranteed freedom from instructions section 42 (3) UG).
Its members are subject to official secrecy (section 48 UG). They may not be hindered in the exercise of their activities and may not be disadvantaged because of their activities (prohibition of hindrance and discrimination section 42 (3) UG).
