Scientific monitoring of the "Raiqa-Areal" demolition project

Client: Raiffeisenbank Tirol Mitte

Implementation period: First half of 2021 (January to June 2021)

Project description:

Raiffeisen-Landesbank Tirol is building the "Raiffeisen-Quartier" in the centre of Innsbruck, which will house a bank, a hotel and office and business premises. The existing building complex had to make way for the realisation of this project.

The first step in the conversion and new construction of the site is the complete gutting of the existing building down to the underlying reinforced concrete skeleton structure. For this purpose, a planned demolition according to the standard demolition method (ÖN B 3151) will be carried out, which includes a prior pollutant investigation and the subsequent removal of the complete interior fittings. In this context, the Department of Waste Treatment and Resource Management at the Institute for Infrastructure at the University of Innsbruck analyses the environmental impact associated with the removed materials.

The necessary data from the removal is provided by the companies involved. The documented residues and materials are analysed with regard to their quantity, potential reusability, recyclability and, if necessary, their disposal. The respective associated emissions of climate-impacting gases and their economic value are determined and evaluated based on national and international specialist publications.
