STARTING YOUR STUDIES
Step by Step toward University of Innsbruck
You would like to study at the University of Innsbruck and have already decided on a study programme.
Step 1: Online application
All applicants must first apply online via the website for the relevant study programmes.
You will receive a notification confirming that your application has been received .
Please note that it may take some time to process your application.
Step 2: Admission/Enrolment
The start of a study programme at the University of Innsbruck is referred to as ‘admission’. This takes place during the ‘ Application and admission deadlines ’ at the ‘Admission Department ’.

Once you have been successfully admitted, you will receive the login details for your student email address, which the university will use to communicate with you!
Step 3: Student card, webmail for students and user ID for IT services
As part of the enrolment process, students are issued with a student ID card (Studentcard), a student email address (first name.last name@student.uibk.ac.at) and personalised login details for LFU:online.

Step 4: Payment of ÖH/tuition fees
If you have been admitted to a Bachelor’s, Diplom, Master’s or PhD programme, you must pay the prescribed semester fee at the start of each semester.

Step 5: Organising your studies
Students at the university are responsible for drawing up their own timetables. Before the start of the semester, you must register for each course you wish to take in the coming semester.

The ‘Studienstart’ information session also provides a good overview of how to organise your daily student life, how to draw up a timetable, and further tips for a successful start to your studies.
From the 2022/23 winter semester onwards, all students starting a Bachelor’s or Diplom degree programme must complete at least 16 ECTS credits in their first four registered semesters!
