STARTING YOUR STUDIES
Step by Step toward University of Innsbruck
You would like to study at the University of Innsbruck and have already decided on a study programme.
Step 1: Online application
All applicants must first apply online via the website for the relevant study programmes.
You will receive a notification confirming that your application has been received.
Please note that it may take some time to process your application.
Step 2: Admission/Enrolment
The start of a study programme at the University of Innsbruck is referred to as ‘admission’. This takes place during the Application and admission deadlines at the Admission Department.
Please schedule an appointment for your enrolment.

Once you have been successfully admitted, you will receive the login details for your student email address, which the university will use to communicate with you!
Step 3: Student Card, Student email address and Student Account for IT services
As part of the admission process, students are issued with a studentcard, a student email address (firstname.lastname@student.uibk.ac.at) and personalised login for the Student Portal of the University of Innsbruck (LFU:online).
Student Card
The Student Card is the University of Innsbruck’s student ID card in credit-card format: Equipped with a chip, it grants students access to university facilities such as the library and the Service Point, and serves as proof of identity. To ensure its validity, the expiration date must be printed on the Student Card at the Service Point each semester.
Student email address
With your student email, you can now communicate with professors and students within the university, and important personal messages (e.g., appointments, notifications about exam results, etc.) will also be sent to your student email address. Therefore, you should check your inbox regularly.
Student Account
Students receive an account with their user ID. With this user ID, you’ll have access to many of the university’s IT services. For example, you can register for courses via LFU:online.
Step 4: Payment of ÖH/tuition fees
If you have been admitted to a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD programme, you must pay the prescribed semester fee at the start of each semester.

Step 5: Organising your studies
Students at the university are responsible for drawing up their own timetables. Before the start of the semester, you must register for each course you wish to take in the coming semester.

From the 2022/23 winter semester onwards, all students starting a Bachelor’s or Diplom degree programme must complete at least 16 ECTS credits in their first four registered semesters!
