Qualification Profile and Skills
The Secondary School Teacher Training Programme (General Education) qualifies its graduates as teachers in the selected subjects of general education / specializations for all secondary schools (Mittelschule, Polytechnische Schule, Academic Secondary Schools, Intermediate and Higher Technical and Vocational Schools). This study programme also meets the requirements for teaching in intermediate and higher schools in South Tyrol*. It consists of a Bachelor’s Programme and a subsequent Master’s Programme. It covers training in general educational science, a pedagogical-practical training and a subject-specific and subject-didactic education in the two selected teaching subjects resp. specialisation.
Graduates of the Bachelor’s program in Teacher Education in the subject physics possess fundamental subject-specific and pedagogical knowledge in physics, as well as initial practical teaching skills. They are able to present physics content in a way that is appropriate for their audience, plan and guide learning processes, and identify and build upon students’ common misconceptions. They can apply and reflect on key methods of physics instruction and use analog and digital media in ways that promote effective learning. They can foster a fundamental understanding of physical concepts among students.
Graduates of the Bachelor’s Secondary School Teacher Training Programme in the subject are:
- able to apply this knowledge in theoretical and practical contexts and connect physical concepts with other fields of knowledge;
- able to explain the results of physics research and contextualize their impact on society and nature;
- able to analyze and interpret physical data from experiments or simulations and draw scientific conclusions from them;
- able to analyze physical systems and are able to apply physical methods and ways of thinking to various contexts to solve physics problems;
- possessing advanced knowledge of physics education;
- possessing a deepened professional understanding as a teacher of physics;
- understanding the central theories and methods of physics education and can explain their relevance to teaching;
- able to apply findings from subject-specific pedagogical research in their teaching;
- purposefully employing proven physics education concepts and curricular approaches to design physics lessons and reflect on their effectiveness in the classroom context;
- taking responsibility for the continuous improvement of their teaching based on new findings in subject-specific pedagogy and curricular developments.
* South Tyrolean teacher education students have to fulfil specific prerequisites, if they want to teach in South Tyrol. For information contact the Office for South Tyrolean Affairs.
Expected Learning Outcomes (in progress)
Graduates possess advanced knowledge of physics and physics education, apply this knowledge in various contexts, and analyze physical systems as well as data from experiments and simulations. They explain scientific findings and their societal significance, design lessons based on pedagogical concepts, and reflectively refine these lessons.
Information about examination regulations, assessment and grading
Examination regulations
The examination regulation is an integral part of the curriculum, detailed information can be found under the paragraph examination regulations.
The grade distribution table is a statistical representation of the distribution of all successfully completed examinations in a given programme of study or subject (based on all registered students for the programme or subject). The grade distribution table is updated in regular intervals.
