Introductory and Orientation Phase
(1) The introductory and orientation phase takes place during the first semester of the degree programme and comprises the following modules:
- Education, School and Society, lecture course 2, 2 ECTS credits (compulsory module 1)
- Functional Anatomy, lecture series 2, 3 ECTS credits
(2) Before the introductory and orientation phase has been fully completed, students may undertake further modules totalling 22 ECTS credits. Successful completion of all examinations in the introductory and orientation phase entitles students to undertake the further modules and examinations.
Recommended study plan
The sample study plan set out below is intended as a recommendation for full-time students commencing their studies in the winter semester. This outline is intended to illustrate a possible course of study and is not mandatory. Any resits or the resulting delays to the duration of study are not taken into account.
The standard duration of study is 6 semesters or 180 ECTS credits; in accordance with the University Act, the workload for one academic year must amount to 1,500 (actual) hours, and 60 credit points are allocated to this workload (one ECTS credit point corresponds to a student’s workload of 25 hours

Qualification Profile and Competencies
The Secondary School Teacher Training Programme (General Education) qualifies its graduates as teachers in the selected subjects of general education / specializations for all secondary schools (Mittelschule, Polytechnische Schule, Academic Secondary Schools, Intermediate and Higher Technical and Vocational Schools). This study programme also meets the requirements for teaching in intermediate and higher schools in South Tyrol*. It consists of a Bachelor’s Programme and a subsequent Master’s Programme. It covers training in general educational science, a pedagogical-practical training and a subject-specific and subject-didactic education in the two selected teaching subjects resp. specialisation.
Graduates of the Bachelor’s degree program in Physical Education and Sport have acquired the subject-specific, pedagogical, pedagogical and practical teaching skills and competencies in the subject of Physical Education and Sport that enable them to teach pupils competently, to awaken their interest in various forms of sport and physical activity in both theory and practice, and to motivate them to engage in lifelong sports activities.
Expected learning outcomes
Graduates possess key knowledge of physical education and sport in the context of the curriculum topics relevant to secondary schools, as well as in the areas of sports methodology and sports didactics. They have a thorough understanding of the profession as a teacher of physical education and sport. They are familiar with curricula and teaching materials, can critically evaluate them and draw up competence-based lesson plans. They are able to support learning processes and assess their learning outcomes.
Future prospects: Career fields and opportunities (in progress)
Graduates of the Bachelor’s degree programme in Secondary School Teacher Training (General Education) are eligible for the corresponding Master’s programme and may be provisionally appointed to the teaching profession to complete the induction phase in their chosen general education subjects at secondary level.
Extension of the degree programme
As part of this degree programme, students may undertake the following supplementary modules, ranging in size from 32 ECTS credits to 60 ECTS credits. Admission to these supplementary modules is conditional upon admission to, or the successful completion of, a selected degree programme. Further information is available at:
