Robert Hafner is a geographer and works as an associate professor for human-technology-environment relations at the Institute of Geography at the University of Innsbruck. He conducts research on environmental justice, political ecology and socio-ecological transformation with an empirical focus on the Alps, Latin America and Indonesia. His interests lie in land and resource policy, energy and food systems, and the question of how technologies mediate human-environment relations. Methodologically, he combines Q methodology, long-term ethnographic fieldwork, and visceral and sensory approaches to reveal different styles of thinking and lived experiences. In addition to his research, he develops practical formats – from workshop designs and decision support to digital prototypes – and is co-founder of geoLIT GmbH and chair of the Ethics Review Board at Eurac Research(Bolzano).
