Guest talk of Assoc. Prof. Fabio Solari on Sep 15
We are happy to announce that on Monday, September 15 2025, 3pm, we will have a visitor from University of Genoa, Italy -
Assoc. Prof. Fabio Solari, who will give a short talk on some of his current work (ICT building, Technikerstraße 21a, 2nd floor, room 3W04).
Title: "Computational models of natural visual perception and interaction for virtual
and mixed reality systems"
Abstract:
Computational models of visual perception can be valuable tools for designing better extended reality (XR) systems, which include augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), and virtual reality (VR). The proposed neural models are mainly based on dorsal visual processing stream paradigms, considering also recent deep learning techniques In addition to applications in artificial vision, these models can mimic and describe human behavioral data, including motion and depth perception. By leveraging previous outcomes, we employ the modeled perception to improve the design of XR applications by providing an enhanced user experience and interaction. This approach allows us to address current challenges related to cybersickness, reaching and grasping, locomotion, and depth estimation, thereby improving the effectiveness of XR applications in training and healthcare.
