Stefan Spiss is a PhD candidate in Computer Science at the University of Innsbruck, where he is a member of the Interactive Graphics and Simulation Group (IGS). He received his BSc and MSc in Computer Science from the University of Innsbruck, including an exchange semester at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, Canada.

His research focuses on 3D reconstruction and object tracking, with applications in surgical systems, and more recently on dense visual SLAM using 3D Gaussian Splatting with omnidirectional cameras. Alongside his research, he (co-)supervises bachelor and master theses at the University of Innsbruck, and has lectured courses in Visual Computing and Applied Mathematics for Computer Science.

In addition, he is a project researcher at MCI Management Center Innsbruck and BHS-Technologies, where he works on research and development of augmented reality applications for surgical microscopes.

In his leisure time, he enjoys hiking, snowboarding, skateboarding, surfing, playing the guitar, and cycling.
