New Post-Doctoral Position Opening
The Interactive Graphics and Simulation (IGS) Group, Department of Computer Science, at University of Innsbruck, Austria, invites applications for the position of a full-time post-doctoral researcher (fixed duration, substitute position).
We are seeking a highly-qualified individual with interest and skill in fields related to the research themes of the IGS group. This could include, but is not limited to: computer graphics, physically-based simulation, surgical planning/support/training, virtual/augmented reality.
Candidates should have earned a doctoral degree in a relevant field (Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Mechatronics, Biomechanics or other related areas), possess a publication record commensurate with experience, and have demonstrated strengths in some of the interest domains of the IGS group, as outlined above. Knowledge and experience in programming e.g. in C/C++/Python is sought, as well as a good level in English, both written and spoken. Experience in teaching and project management is a benefit.
The search is open immediately (application deadline November 25, 2026). The position is initially offered for a duration of up to one year, on the level of non-permanent university research staff (as a fixed duration substitute).
Applications can be submitted online:

PhD student @ IGNDITE Project
Topic: Patient-specific liver deformation modelling with AI – Planning, Interpretability, Explainability
Supervisors: M. Harders, R. Bale
Predicting patient-specific liver deformations for radiofrequency ablation procedures is essential for accurate treatment planning and intraoperative guidance.
In this project we address the challenges by developing a novel AI-driven framework that combines the best approaches to accurately model patient-specific liver deformations.
Moreover, to overcome deep learning “black boxes” the PhD should also explore new approaches towards quantitative assessment of such solutions, such as failure mode analysis, model architecture analysis and reduction, as well as continual learning aspects.
Research field: Computer Science/Radiology
Recommended background: Computer science, biomedical engineering, applied mathematics or a related field; experience or interest in AI, simulation, deep learning, medical image analysis and explainable AI.
