Eastern Europe

With the focal region Eastern Europe, we are looking at a geographical area that can present itself very differently depending on the temporal focus. By Eastern Europe we primarily understand the region of Eastern, Central Eastern and South-Eastern Europe. Depending on the perspective, however, Byzantium or the post-Soviet space including Central Asia and the Caucasus can also be the subject of debate. Based on the Slavic research and teaching of languages, literatures and cultures as well as historical approaches, interdisciplinarity and the cooperation between researchers and teachers from different disciplines at the university is our declared aim.

Our main task is to promote the exchange and cooperation of the University of Innsbruck with academics from Eastern Europe as well as with cultural professionals and representatives of civil society. We achieve this with transfer-oriented events on cultural, social, and political topics related to Eastern Europe, such as readings, film screenings or discussion events, as well as highlighting the expertise on Eastern Europe at the University of Innsbruck and supporting the International Relations Office in this area.
