In the context of increasing globalisation, the targeted scientific examination of different regions of the world is of central importance. For this purpose, the University of Innsbruck maintains international cooperations with universities, networks, and other research associations. The Network of Areas (NoA) brings together perspectives on selected regions of the world and examines socially relevant topics and regional challenges.
The Network of Areas at the University of Innsbruck aims to promote international exchange, to develop regional focal areas and strategic partnerships in the areas of research, teaching and third mission and to invigorate these using innovative formats.
For this purpose, we announced an open call for the first time in 2025, which was open throughout the university. Funding was provided for addressing socially relevant topics for a specific region and regional challenges in the areas of research, teaching and third mission. Funding criteria included, among others, social relevance, the potential to establish long-term collaboration with regional project partners and an interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary approach. This has resulted in further focal regions.
We understand the current focal areas as global regions that build on specific research projects and activities in teaching and third mission at the University of Innsbruck. Depending on current disciplinary approaches to research, this results in Network Areas that are intended to remain dynamic

6 Tage – 65 Filme: Das IFFI zeigt Filme aus Regionen und zu Themen, die in globalen Kinonetzwerken unterrepräsentiert sind.Ein Filmfestival des Otto Preminger Instituts u.a. in Kooperation mit dem Network of Areas: Die Filmpatenschaften sind jeweils im Programm ausgezeichnet.

Im Rahmen der Woche der Vielfalt: In der Zeit von Dienstag, 10. bis Samstag, 14. Juni 2025 legt die Universität Innsbruck auch heuer wieder einen besonderen Schwerpunkt auf das Thema Diversität und macht diese nach innen wie auch nach außen hin sichtbar. Höhepunkt der Woche ist das Fest der Vielfalt, am 14. Juni 2025, von 11:00 bis 20:00 Uhr. Hier erwartet die Besucher:innen ein vielfältiges und buntes Programm rund um das Volkskunstmuseum.

27.06.2025 –27.06.2025 Gefördert wird die Bearbeitung gesellschaftlich relevanter Themen für eine spezifische Region und regionale Herausforderungen in Bereichen Forschung, Lehre und Third Mission. Förderkriterien sind u.a. die gesellschaftliche Relevanz, das Potential zum Aufbau einer längerfristigen Zusammenarbeit mit regionalen Projektpartner:innen und ein inter- oder transdisziplinärer Ansatz.
