From July 3-7 2023, the Achaemenid Workshop 2 "The Achaemenid Persian Empire and Imperial Transformations in the Ancient Near East (7th - 2nd c. BC)" took place in Obergurgl (AUT), organized by Robert Rollinger (Innsbruck/Wrocław) and M. Rahim Shayegan (Los Angeles). The conference focused on the emergence, fall and transformation processes of the Persian-Achaimenid Empire (6th-4th century BC), contextualized by previous developments in the period of the Neo-Assyrian Empire under the Sargonid dynasty (7th century BC) as well as by an outlook on the early Seleucid period (3rd-2nd century BC). The conference took place in the context of the ÖAW-Commission "Transformation Processes and Empire in the Ancient Worlds of Afro-Eurasia" and the international large-scale project "Achaemenid Workshops" (AchWorks).

Whereas Alejandro Boucabeille, Elisabeth Pangerl, Clemens Steinwender, Valentina Cambruzzi and Cassandra Lamche each held chair, Florian Posselt and Valentina Cambruzzi gave a lecture.

Florian Posselt: "Ethnography in the neo-Assyrian royal inscriptions"

Valentina Cambruzzi: "Of satraps and generals and generals: discontinuity between Achaemenid and Seleucid roles(?)"
