Jessica Pflüger is a Professor of Sociology (Meso Sociology: Institutions and Organizations). Her research is located at the intersection of the sociology of work, sociology of organization, sociology of science, and social research methods.

She is interested in how, why, and by whom social change occurs and the role of institutions. She uses and develops various (meso-)sociological theories and methods.

Her research covers a wide range of topics. She received her PhD for an international comparative dissertation on academics' (changing) research practices (2012). In this context, she subsequently investigated changes in university governance and their consequences (e.g., 2021, with K. Mojescik).

Parts of her international research dealt with social changes in China, e.g., labor protests compared to Germany (2017, with I. Artus) and the transnationalization of Chinese universities (ongoing, with Y. Berger).

She has a long-standing interest in social research methods, especially organizational research methods. She has published extensively on case study methodology (e.g., 2017, with H.J. Pongratz and R. Trinczek; 2018, with S. Wagenknecht ) and, in recent years, increasingly on research ethics issues (e.g., 2024, with C. Scheytt).

Current research topics include institutions of work, integrative perspectives on work and households, changes in universities in China, the significance of AI for social science knowledge production, and research ethics in organizations.
