About the person

Federica Isabella Malfatti is currently completing her habilitation at the Department of Christian Philosophy as part of the Erika Cremer Habilitation Programme at the University of Innsbruck. In her habilitation project, she is working on the topic of epistemic trust. The aim is to investigate the nature and normativity of epistemic trust and to shed light on the relationship between trust and autonomy.

Malfatti studied philosophy at the universities of Pavia, Mainz and Heidelberg. She completed her doctorate at the Department of Christian Philosophy (2015 to 2020) and spent research stays at the University of Cologne and Harvard University. From 2018 to 2020 she worked as a university assistant in the doctoral programme "Philosophy of religion". Her dissertation entitled "Understanding understanding" was published as a monograph by Schwabe Verlag in 2023 and is accessible at Open Access thanks to a generous grant from the Austrian Science Fund (FWF). Her second monograph entitled "The Social Fabric of Understanding", scheduled for publication in 2025, is under contract with Springer (Synthese Library).

Malfatti is head of the TrAU! project project funded by TWF. As part of this project, she has realised two research stays in the USA - at Harvard University (2022) and UCLA (2024).
