The Department of Christian Philosophy is an internationally networked research institution with particular expertise in areas such as metaphysics/ontology, epistemology, philosophy of science, philosophy of mind, logic and ethics, moral psychology, and feminist philosophy. The institute has also gained an international reputation for its research and publication of source texts in philosophy and theology. Methodologically, we are guided by the conceptual and argumentative standards of analytical philosophy, whereby openness of discourse and exchange with representatives of other disciplines and research cultures is of particular importance to us.

A particular focus is on the philosophy of religion: the philosophical reflection on the nature and conditions of rationality of religion in all its facets and on questions of worldview and orientation. The aim is not to engage in “Christian internal philosophy,” but rather to enter into ideological dialogue and raise awareness of socio-political responsibility.
