Preliminary Scientific Themes
ISCCB 2027 will explore chromaffin cells as a model for neuroendocrine communication across development, physiology, and disease. The scientific program will build on the historical strengths of ISCCB in secretion biology and excitation–secretion coupling while highlighting emerging directions in developmental biology, neuroendocrine disease, and advanced technologies.
The meeting will cover topics including:
- Excitation–Secretion Coupling: ion channels, receptors, calcium signaling, electrical excitability, and secretory responses.
- Vesicle Biology and Regulated Secretion: membrane trafficking, exocytosis, endocytosis, fusion pore dynamics, dense-core vesicles, and neurotransmitter release.
- Chromogranins and Secretory Cargo: catecholamines, neuropeptides, ATP signaling, chromogranins, and vesicular storage mechanisms.
- Development, Plasticity, and Regeneration: neural crest derivatives, Schwann cell precursors, stem and progenitor populations, adrenal development, and cellular plasticity.
- Stress Physiology and Disease: stress adaptation, autonomic regulation, metabolism, neurodegenerative disease, pheochromocytoma, paraganglioma, and neuroblastoma.
- Emerging Technologies and Models: single-cell omics, lineage tracing, advanced imaging, electrophysiology, electrochemistry, advanced in vitro models, organoids, and computational approaches.
The scientific program will feature plenary lectures, invited talks, abstract-selected presentations, poster sessions, workshops, and dedicated opportunities for early-career researchers.
