“The ultimate form of preparation is not planning for a specific scenario, but a mindset that can handle uncertainty.” (James Clear)

Risks for working in mountain environments

Preamble:

Mountains are not only habitats and playgrounds, but also workplaces for various professions. Regardless of their destination or mission, people who travel in the mountains expose themselves to this natural environment. How they deal with the dangers that exist there, how they behave, and what decisions they make determines their level of risk.

The lecture focuses on the following questions:

  • What are the potential dangers in the mountains?
  • What risks do these pose to humans?
  • What can we do to manage this risk?
Benefits from lecture:
  • Data, figures, and facts about accidents in the Alps.
  • Overview of the dangers in the Alps in summer and winter.
  • Risk management and tour planning for work in alpine terrain.
  • Practical exercises in the field.
