Double legalization (= full diplomatic legalization)
Legalization guidelines
Full diplomatic legalization is required for documents from all countries with which no bilateral legalization agreement exists and which are not signatories to the Hague Legalization Convention (recognized by Austria).
ATTENTION:
The full diplomatic legalization by the Austrian representation authority is deferred in some countries. In this case, you only need the domestic attestation clauses of the ministry of education and the ministry of foreign affairs.
Please check if your graduation documents were issued in a country listed above.
Please adhere to the information of the correct authentication order:
1. ISSUING AUTHORITY (e.g. school, university)
confirms authenticity by seal and signature
2. SUPERIOR AUTHORITY (e.g. Ministry of Education, Ministry of Science)
certifies the seal and signature of 1.
3. TRANSLATION BY TRANSLATOR
The translation must be inseparable from the certified document.
4. MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS
certifies seal and signature of 2. and 3.
5. AUSTRIAN REPRESENTATIVE AUTHORITY
certifies seal and signature of 4.
Translation guidelines
Documents can be submitted in German or English. If the language of issue of the original documents is different, they have to be officially translated.
The translation must be carried out by registered or court-sworn translators and linked to the originals inseparably.

Please note:
- The original document must bear all the necessary certification stamps before translation.
- All stamps/seals and certification notes on the document (including those on the back of the document) have to be translated.
