Metacognition in Multilingual Development: From multilingual children to polyglots
The DyME research group and the Department of English are pleased to invite scholars, researchers and postgraduate students working on metacognition and multilingualism to submit abstracts to the conference Metacognition in Multilingual Development: From multilingual children to polyglots, which will be held at the University Center in Obergurgel, Austria, from the 18th to 21st September 2019.

Press Conference on MELA Received with Great Enthusiasm

The Concept of early multilingual education in Ladin Kindergartens in Val Gardena and Val Badia is already matured and promotes the language competence and creativity of the Children. This was highlighted at the press conference of today in Bolzano by Linguist UIrike Jessner-Schmid of the University of Innsbruck.

Ladin Kindergartens as Role Model

The results of the Mela study, concerning the language development of Ladin Children in multilingual Kindergartens, were presented on Wednesday, 07th August, in Bolzano. Some of the central tenets are listed below.
«We would like to have substantiated results on which to base our decisions. We want to avoid a language policy based on our gut feeling.»
«Early multilingualism has a highly positive effect on the linguistic level, not only with regard to the mother tongue, but also when learning additional languages.»
«At home I speak green, but I can also speak red and yellow!»
