ARS ALPINE RESEARCH SITES

The Faculty of Biology of the University of Innsbruck is running 8 research sites representing different habitat types facilitating optimum conditions for a wide range of research interests.

The sites are distributed over an area of approximately 1,500 km² and an altitudinal gradient of nearly 2,000 m. This enables researchers to directly examine montane to nival habitats like glaciers, mountain forests, lakes and rivers, alpine pastures and agricultural areas in valley bottoms.

Pooling these research sites aims towards intensified coordination between the sites, facilitation of cooperative research and educational programmes but also enhanced visibility of the research sites and their scientific outputs.

Here, we want to introduce every site in detail and report on recent research, publications and other activities at the sites.

Additionally, we want to give an overview on scientific literature and data aquired at the sites.
